Locanda Antiche Macine: Un’oasi di sapori romagnoli a Montalbano

Nestled between the Valmarecchia and Rubicone valleys, near Santarcangelo di Romagna, in the charming village of Montalbano, lies the Locanda Antiche Macine agriturismo. This idyllic retreat, housed in a meticulously restored 17th-century olive oil mill, boasts a lush garden adorned with the millstones that lend the establishment its name and numerous olive trees. The adjacent farm provides many of the restaurant’s ingredients; its produce, including wine, olive oil, jams, fruits, and vegetables, is all locally sourced and certified. The ground floor houses the spacious dining area and reception venue, while guest rooms are situated on the upper level. A large dining hall, a veranda, and the picturesque garden (during the warmer months) cater to diners, while a separate hall provides an ideal setting for meetings and larger gatherings. Children are well-catered for with dedicated entertainment.

The Locanda Antiche Macine offers a traditional Romagna cuisine with a contemporary twist. Seasonal ingredients, such as mushrooms, truffles, and fresh vegetables, take center stage. Each dish is meticulously crafted, balancing flavor and nutritional value with a light, modern approach. Locally sourced meats – including salumi, cheeses, poultry, red meats, and game (depending on availability) – complete the menu. Special attention is paid to catering for guests with dietary needs, including those with celiac disease, lactose intolerance, and vegetarian preferences. The extensive wine cellar reflects the agriturismo’s philosophy, boasting around one hundred labels, with a strong emphasis on Emilia-Romagna and Northern Italian wines, featuring selections from Lombardy, Veneto, and the Franciacorta hills, alongside their own production.

From June to August, the restaurant is open for both lunch and dinner; during the rest of the year (September to May), it operates in the evenings during the week and for both lunch and dinner on Saturdays and Sundays. Groups of up to 30 people are happily accommodated, with packages starting at €20.
