Bologna Hosts a Celebration of Artisan Wines: Back to the Wine 2022

From May 22nd to 23rd, the DumBO Space in Bologna will host Back to the Wine, a significant event showcasing over 1000 labels of handcrafted wines. This two-day festival brings together more than 120 winemakers from across Italy, offering a unique opportunity to sample small-batch vintages. The event seamlessly blends industry professionals, wine enthusiasts, and a convivial atmosphere.

The focus is on artisan wine production, emphasizing environmentally conscious practices and limited production runs (typically between 15,000 and 20,000 bottles annually). Emilia-Romagna is strongly represented, with 32 wineries participating, followed by Veneto with 22. However, a wide array of Italian regions—from Lombardy and Trentino-Alto Adige to Sicily and Sardinia—are featured, providing a true nationwide showcase of “natural” wines. These wines minimize intervention in the cellar and shun synthetic chemicals, focusing on healthy grapes to express the best of the terroir in the bottle.

While primarily designed for trade professionals (wine bars, restaurants, importers, and distributors), Back to the Wine also welcomes the public, providing a rare chance to taste and purchase exceptional wines often difficult to find elsewhere. Enhanced by food and beverage vendors on site, the festival promises a full day of delicious experiences and delightful social interaction.

The event is orchestrated by Andrea Marchetti (also the creator of Vinessum), under the management of Blu Nautilus. Partners sharing a commitment to artisan quality and genuine ingredients include Trattoria Stazione of Castel d’Ario (with its biodynamic farm, Corte Raffetta), Vineria Favalli (a well-established Bolognese wine shop), and Porc a l’Ora (a Mantuan producer of pasture-raised pork). Porc a l’Ora will be present offering its products for tasting.
