From September 6th to 8th, 2024, the charming medieval village of Verucchio will host its annual Fira di Quatorg festival. Rooted in the September 14th Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross, this beloved event offers a vibrant blend of age-old customs and contemporary entertainment. Visitors and locals alike are invited to immerse themselves in a captivating atmosphere filled with captivating performances, lively music, delectable food and drink, traditional games, interactive workshops, engaging exhibitions, demonstrations of historic crafts, and glimpses into the region’s rich agricultural heritage, including farmyard animals—all free of charge. Deeply cherished by Verucchio’s residents, the “Quatorg Fair” exudes the aromas and flavors of yesteryear. While originally centered on the trading of goods and livestock, it now fills the streets and squares with a diverse array of offerings. A dedicated group of Verucchio citizens, the “Fiera Committee,” in collaboration with the “Pro Loco,” have organized this year’s festivities, embracing the spirit of Giovanni Pascoli’s poem “L’aquilone” with their chosen slogan: “Something new… in the sun, yet ancient.” The festival’s curtain rises on Friday, September 6th, with a trio of engaging activities. A picturesque walk through the village’s charming lanes commences at 5 PM, starting and ending at Piazza Malatesta. At 6 PM, Verucchio’s merchants extend a warm welcome with an Aperifiera, followed by a captivating performance by the Duo Bucolico at 9 PM. Saturday, September 7th, brings the festival into full swing. Alongside a market showcasing local produce and artisan crafts, a new exhibition for 2024, “(FU)Metti una sera a cena a Verucchio,” will display food-themed comics. Ten gleaming Ferraris will grace Piazza Malatesta, delighting car enthusiasts. Further entertainment includes the exhilarating “Sfilata delle caratelle” (a unique, gravity-powered cart parade) and the spirited “Giochi delle Contrade” (neighborhood games). The evening culminates with a live music performance by the Patrizia Ceccarelli Band in Piazzale Dasi. On Sunday, September 8th, the heart of Verucchio awakens early. From 8 AM onwards, Piazza Malatesta and surrounding areas will be abuzz with displays of vintage tractors, artisan workshops, and food stalls. Mone and the Friends of the Farmyard will lead a charming procession of animals through the village streets, while Eugenio Pazzini’s captivating ballads, accompanied by the Città di Verucchio Band, will resonate at the Chiesa del Suffragio. Additional activities will include archery demonstrations and a thrilling climb of the greased pole. The Quatorg Festival traditionally concludes with a breathtaking fireworks display, culminating in the dramatic illumination of the Rocca Malatestiana.
