Emilia-Romagna Green Days: A Summer of Outdoor Adventures

The Emilia-Romagna region launches its “Green Days,” a series of weekend events spanning from June through autumn, offering a wealth of outdoor activities. This initiative responds to the growing desire for nature-based experiences, providing a diverse calendar of excursions across the region. From June 13th to 14th, the program kicks off with activities in ten historic fortresses scattered across the region, from Piacenza to Ravenna. These locations offer guided tours, exploring hidden gardens, towers, and courtyards, blending historical narratives with poetic interpretations of significant figures and literary myths.

The current schedule—constantly expanding with new additions—boasts over 87 offerings, including 31 regional events, 15 dedicated “green day” experiences, 15 outdoor activities, and 25 excursions. Adventures range from leisurely walks amidst forests, castles, and ancient strongholds to challenging mountain bike ascents and trekking across the Apennine crests. Visitors can also explore natural parks, oases, and embark on boat trips along the Po River, immersing themselves in the area’s unique flora, fauna, and tranquil atmosphere.

Regional Tourism Minister Andrea Corsini emphasizes the current thirst for slow-paced escapes into untouched landscapes. The “Green Days” program directly caters to this need, presenting a broad range of experiences that highlight Emilia-Romagna’s natural and historical treasures, from castles and the Po River to ancient villages and cycling/hiking trails. The program offers unforgettable experiences, thanks to the diverse range of activities created by local operators.

The program’s offerings are diverse and evocative, encompassing activities such as “Green Day in Crevalcore,” “Wonders of Falterona,” “Tracing the Tracks,” “Bike and Trek on the Romagna Balcony,” “Sunset Yoga in the Valleys,” and a nighttime excursion to observe nocturnal wildlife. Further options include walking tours exploring the historical evolution of Argenta, sunset photography excursions, bike-birdwatching tours, guided excursions in national parks, and yoga, canoeing, and trekking near the Ridracoli dam.

Additional experiences include farm treks, urban explorations of charming villages, sports activities (cycling tours, Nordic walking, and fishing), and historical and culinary events (exploring local legends, delving into history and culture, truffle hunts, and wine tastings). The region’s landscape, from the Apennines to the Food Valley and the coastline, is showcased through visits to the towers and ramparts of well-preserved fortresses nestled within wooded valleys and plains. Numerous castles, including Malatesta castles, the castles of the Duchy of Parma and Piacenza, Matildic castles, and the castles of the Modena region, offer enchanting settings. Many of these historical sites, featuring beautiful interiors and frescoes, are open for exploration during the summer months, presenting captivating and romantic destinations.
