Romagna Wine Consortium Showcases Regional Excellence at Vinitaly 2016

From April 10th to 13th, Verona played host to the 50th edition of Vinitaly, the renowned international wine and spirits exhibition. Since its inception in 1967, this prestigious event, held in the city of Romeo and Juliet, has consistently drawn significant attention. Occupying 95,000 square meters, Vinitaly 2016 attracted approximately 4,000 exhibitors and a projected 150,000 visitors, solidifying its position as the most anticipated event in the wine industry calendar. The show featured over fifty themed tastings of Italian and international wines, complemented by a comprehensive program addressing key market trends. Emilia-Romagna, a region known for its winemaking excellence, participated prominently, showcasing its diverse offerings. The region’s presence at Vinitaly 2016 was substantial, encompassing 200 wineries and consortia, 500 labels, seven tasting stations, 40 culinary and service staff, 15 sommeliers, and over 15,000 wine glasses. This impressive display occupied over 4,000 square meters within Pavilion 1, managed by the Emilia-Romagna Regional Wine Cellar. This pavilion, themed as a culinary journey from Piacenza to Rimini along the Via Emilia, provided a unique gastronomic experience. Complementing the extensive wine tasting, the unique “Incantina” restaurant offered a menu focused on regional specialties, featuring artisanal fresh pasta as a centerpiece. The Romagna Wine Consortium was among the participants, represented by 31 wineries within Pavilion 1. This significant group reflects the region’s robust wine production and the Consortium’s proactive promotional strategy. “Our participation this year surpasses that of 2015,” stated President Giordano Zinzani, highlighting the success of their promotional initiatives aimed at enhancing the profile of Romagna wines both domestically and internationally. Vinitaly provides an invaluable platform for industry professionals to connect and collaborate, enabling the Consortium to maximize opportunities for its member wineries. Beyond the tasting stations, the Consortium’s newly redesigned booth hosted daily events and activities designed to engage visitors and industry experts. These included cooking demonstrations, guided tastings of Romagna Albana and Romagna Sangiovese, alongside other local varietals, a midday aperitivo, and late afternoon tastings pairing Albana Passito with traditional sweets.
