Cesena Celebrates Romagna’s Culinary Heritage: A Wine Festival Extravaganza

Get ready for the fourth annual Romagna Wine Festival, transforming Cesena into Italy’s premier showcase for exceptional wines for three delightful days. From Friday, April 15th to Sunday, April 17th, food enthusiasts, winemakers, journalists, wine aficionados, chefs, connoisseurs, and lovers of the good life will converge in the heart of this historic city. For three days, Cesena will become a vibrant epicenter of gastronomic delights. This engaging event has garnered widespread support, fostering a fruitful collaboration between Romagna Sangiovese and other regional wines, alongside local culinary specialties and numerous distinguished guests from across Italy. The festival aims to spark exploration and reflection on high-quality Romagna wine and food through tastings, samplings, seminars, conferences, cooking demonstrations, and captivating wine narratives. The official opening is slated for Friday, April 15th at 5:30 PM with “Aperid’hoc” under the Loggiato Comunale in Piazza del Popolo. This immersive themed experience will pair regional wines presented by their producers with delicious food samples, embarking on a culinary journey encompassing land, sea, and vegetarian options. Key locations for the 2016 Wine Festival include the Biblioteca Malatestiana, the Palazzo del Ridotto, the Foro Annonario, and the Loggiato Comunale in Piazza del Popolo, the latter hosting main tastings featuring a rotation of Romagna and Tuscan wines. Creative culinary experiences will also abound. On Saturday at 3:00 PM in Piazzetta del Foro Annonario, eight aspiring chefs will transform into “Chefs for a Day,” competing to create the “Best Tagliatelle in the Romagna Style.” Contestants will have 45-60 minutes to prepare approximately 1 kg of pasta sheets, cook them, and dress them with ragù or other sauces of their choice. Simultaneously, three stations featuring Mariette Artusiane will guide attendees in making fresh pasta during their pasta-making workshops. On Sunday at the Palazzo del Ridotto, the eagerly anticipated “Sangiovese Derby” will pit eight samples of Romagna DOC Sangiovese Riserva 2013 against eight samples of Morellino di Scansano DOCG Riserva.
