Longiano’s Ristorante dei Cantoni: A Taste of Romagna’s Heritage

Nestled in the rolling hills behind Cesena, in the charming town of Longiano, lies Ristorante dei Cantoni. Its name, derived from “I cantóun,” evokes the historic working-class district of medieval Longiano. Founded in 1989 by Teresa and Danilo Bianchi, this welcoming restaurant boasts a rustic, slightly retro ambiance. Exposed brick arches and pastel-toned country-style furnishings create a warm, inviting atmosphere, typical of Romagna hospitality. An outdoor veranda, perfect for al fresco dining, offers stunning views and is heated for year-round comfort.
The menu celebrates traditional Romagna cuisine, focusing on locally-sourced, seasonal ingredients prepared with thoughtful simplicity. Expect dishes that evoke cherished memories, highlighting the region’s authentic flavors. Homemade pasta, such as hand-rolled tagliatelle, takes center stage, alongside regional specialties like rabbit cooked in a clay pot and local beef, including filet mignon paired with Sogliano’s prized DOP fossa cheese. A touch of coastal influence graces the menu, especially during summer.
Even the bread is crafted in-house—the restaurant’s own oven daily bakes bread and piadina using sourdough starter and stone-ground flour. An excellent wine list, featuring a selection of Sangiovese wines, complements the culinary offerings. Craft beer aficionados will appreciate the choice of local brews, such as Noiz from Santarcangelo.
