Romagna’s Culinary Gem: A Predappio Dining Experience

Our food correspondent, Giulia, recently visited Predappio to savor the specialties at Da Loro Restaurant. Nestled near the town’s entrance on the main thoroughfare, its informal ambiance invites diners to experience the culinary artistry of chef and owner Andrea Lombini. The restaurant evokes a classic Romagna trattoria; unpretentious yet genuine, prioritizing the quality of its dishes and warm hospitality. Andrea’s dishes showcase the authentic, homely flavors of Romagna, transforming the dining experience into a convivial gathering. The menu is a celebration of traditional Romagna cuisine. Expect handmade flatbreads (piade), crescioni (stuffed flatbreads), bruschetta, and an array of fresh pasta creations such as tagliatelle with Bolognese ragù, passatelli (small dumplings) in broth or dry, cappelletti (small, hat-shaped pasta), and even curzul (a Faenza specialty). Each dish features seasonal ingredients and traditional sauces. For pasta enthusiasts, two enticing menus offer a substantial 140-gram serving of tagliatelle or spaghetti with diverse sauces. The meat dishes, as the chef playfully notes, are guaranteed to be tender and flavorful. Andrea’s friendly nature and creative flair enhance the dining experience, offering a delightful prelude to each course. Generous portions don’t compromise quality; the comforting dishes feel homely and leave diners feeling rejuvenated. Guided by Andrea’s suggestions, Giulia started with cappelletti in porcini cream sauce. The thick pasta enveloped a delicate ricotta filling, perfectly complemented by the creamy porcini mushroom sauce. Next came the restaurant’s signature dish: the “Bastone della Zingara” – a beef and pancetta roulade wrapped around a wooden skewer. The chef’s playful instruction to eat it directly from the skewer transformed the meal into a fun, interactive experience, balancing street food flair with comforting home-style cooking. The tender beef and savory pancetta created a delightful harmony of flavors. The evening concluded with the addition of another excellent restaurant to Giulia’s list. Da Loro Restaurant is highly recommended for those seeking authentic Romagna cuisine and a truly welcoming atmosphere. Giulia Valentini
